Interpersonal Development

Our school operates on a "Tribes" system of helping the children learn to cooperate, work together effectively and respect one another. As the Tribes website describes the learning process "...creating a positive school or classroom environment is the most effective way to improve behaviour and learning."   We have five basic agreements for working together in the classroom and in the playground:

  1. Attentive Listening

  2. Appreciation, No Put-downs

  3. Participation, Right to pass

  4. Mutual Respect

  5. Personal best

Activities and discussions are designed to help children understand and practise these ways of working together.  The day begins and ends with a "Community Circle" during which the children learn that they are valued and also to share and respect the rights of others.  More information about the Tribes process can be found on their website or by contacting staff at the school.
